We are a highly regarded construction company with a national presence delivering complex design & construct (D&C) projects across the commercial and retail sectors, with a strong reputation for quality and delivery, we continue to secure large-scale work and are seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join their team.
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support the safe delivery of commercial construction projects. Reporting to the Construction Manager – Site Operations, you will play a key role in implementing and overseeing our Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management System on-site, ensuring compliance with WHS and environmental legislation and driving a strong safety culture.
This is a hands-on, site-based position where you’ll work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies to proactively identify risks and maintain a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Site HSE Management
- Implement and manage the HSE Management System across assigned projects
- Identify, assess and control safety and environmental risks
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and company procedures
- Participate in project handovers and provide HSE input throughout the project lifecycle
Systems, Compliance & Administration
- Maintain HSE documentation and systems (e.g., Procore, 1Breadcrumb)
- Review and approve SWMS, conduct site inductions, and manage permits to work
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and site safety performance
Incident & Emergency Management
- Manage incidents in line with company procedures and regulatory requirements
- Provide first aid and support incident investigations
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and drills
Inspection, Audit & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits
- Track and close out non-conformances within required timeframes
- Support internal and external audits
Engagement & Communication
- Lead toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, and HSE committee sessions
- Promote consultation and proactive hazard identification
- Liaise with regulatory authorities (e.g., WorkSafe, EPA) where required
Site Operations Support
- Ensure site amenities and safety controls meet required standards
- Support traffic management, site housekeeping, and site safety planning
- Monitor hazardous substances, electrical safety, and plant compliance
About You
Qualifications & Certifications
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (minimum)
- Construction White Card
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Additional qualifications (highly regarded): Diploma WHS, Cert IV TAE, auditing certification, trade background
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar HSE role
- Strong experience within commercial or industrial construction
- Experience using HSE management systems (e.g., Procore, 1Breadcrumb)
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of WHS and environmental legislation
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to influence safety behaviours and drive a positive safety culture
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and time management skills
- Confident working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
Additional Requirements
- Current driver’s licence
- Ability to travel between sites if required
- High level of professionalism and presentation
